My World, My Imagination: Art by Children from TC Families
Connor Yang (age 5) Title: Dropping Dropping Gravity Painting Size: 18.5 x 57.5 Medium: Mixed media (painting and cutting) I name it in this way because it is really heavy. I spent two days completing the work. I used pom poms, paper, glue, sticky tape, paints, lego pieces and scissors to do it. I glued some pompoms on it, if they fall, I glue them back. I used lego pieces as paint brush. I sometimes make the painting symmetric while some other parts are asymmetric.
Sophie Hong (age 8) Title: In My Dream Size: 11 x 14 Medium: Markers and color pencils One night, I had a dream about playing with animals in a candy land. I did not want to wake up from the dream and it became my favorite dream.
Olivia Shim (age 8) Title: Bun Bun's Cozy World Size: 12 × 6.5 × 4.5 Medium: Mixed media (colored paper, tape, masking tape, marker) Welcome to Bun Bun’s cozy world. My imagined home of warmth, magic, and fluffy surprises. I created a house with a chimney, a soft carpet, a bathroom, a table with a cellphone, and a little ducky-looking dog toy to keep Bun Bun company. She loves eating carrots and has a special bed that leads to an underground portal. For safety, there’s a bush she can hide in if danger (like a tiger!) appears. Under the table is a secret button that turns food into water. If Bun Bun crosses a certain line and presses the black button, her garden transforms into a fluff pit, where she can rest on soft clouds.
Shawn Gao (age 12) Title: A Dreamy Jungle Adventure Size: 12 x 18 Medium: Watercolor and ink In my painting A Dreamy Jungle Adventure, I imagined myself swinging through a magical jungle like Tarzan! The jungle is super green with all kinds of cool leaves—big, small, spiky, and smooth. Everything is full of life and adventure. As I swing on a vine, I see a huge python slithering through the trees, a giant turtle slowly walking through the bushes on the river bank, and a sneaky lizard hiding on a tree trunk. There are monkeys jumping from branch to branch, chattering and playing. Some are even looking at me like they want to join the fun! I painted lots of animals and plants to show how wild and exciting the jungle can be. I used different greens to make it feel alive and deep, like you could really get lost in it. This is a place where anything can happen; it is a dreamy, wild adventure, and I am right in the middle of it!
Imani Cofield Niang (age 6) Title: Self Portrait Size: 12 x 14 Medium: Watercolor and oil sticks on paper I drew myself and some of my favorite things: a cat, butterfly, heart, ring, bracelets. The cat was my favorite- I like the cat on my head. I used watercolor and oil sticks.
Anita Peeples (age 9) Title: Outer Space Size: 8 x 11.5 Medium: Pencil & marker I like how I drew the shooting star because it's like a star in a star in a star
Roy Hong (age 10) Title: Nacho Land Size: 11 x 14 Medium: Pencil and Markers Nachos are my favorite snack so I often dream about a place where Nachos are endless.
James Koh (age 7) Title: My Lightbulb of Nature Size: 8 x 10 Medium: Pencil and Color Pencil Drawing In my drawing, I made a big lightbulb. But it’s not just a regular lightbulb — it's a magical one! Inside the lightbulb, there is a little green plant. It’s small now, but I think one day it can grow into a big tree. The lightbulb is very bright. It shines like the sun and makes the plant feel happy. It reminds me of how nature helps things grow with light and love. I drew this picture because it was the first idea that popped into my head! I thought, "What if nature and ideas could grow together in one place?" That’s why I call it my lightbulb of nature — a place where big dreams can grow from tiny seeds.
Seoyeon Koh (age 10) Title: My World, My Imagination Size: 8 x 10 Medium: Pencil and Color Pencil Drawing In my artwork, I showed the ups and downs of my thoughts and feelings about life. Each bubble represents something different in my mind. On the right side, one bubble shows me getting good grades, and I felt happy and proud. But the next bubble shows bad grades, which made me feel ashamed and sad — even the background turns sad with me. The purple bubble shows my dream of being a doctor, which means I’ll have to study a lot and be smart. On the left, I’m sleeping, and everything is dark because I’m thinking about the future and all my worries. One bubble has swirls and a hidden zombie with the world cracking. It makes me wonder, “Will the world break? Will zombies come?” My art shows how my brain is full of big dreams, scary thoughts, and deep questions. That’s why I call it "My World, My Imagination."
Ahyoung Olivia Shin (age 7) Title: World I Want It to Be Medium: Paint The pepul [people] are chereing [cheering] for me as president, the ballun [balloons] above me is the world I want it to be, this is how I am going to chaing [changing] the world [by] being president!
